House Commission III Asks AGO to Form Independent Team to Investigate FA Case

Jakarta – Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habiburokhman, has requested the Attorney General’s Office to form an independent team to investigate an alleged corruption case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah (FA). The request was made after the case, previously handled by the police, was transferred to the Attorney General’s Office. “Commission III of the DPR RI requests the Attorney General’s Office to form an independent investigation team to handle the case allegedly involving FA, consisting of senior officials who are not affiliated with FA,” Habiburokhman stated in the Commission III hearing room in Jakarta on Saturday. He emphasised that an independent team is crucial to prevent any intervention in the investigation process by individuals still affiliated with FA, thereby ensuring the case is handled thoroughly and independently. He added that a special working committee recently established by Commission III will oversee the work of the independent team formed by the Attorney General’s Office. Habiburokhman assured that the committee will work independently and transparently in supervising the legal process carried out by the independent team. “Commission III of the DPR RI remains committed to ensuring that the oversight function runs optimally so that inter-institutional cooperation remains robust and on the right track,” he asserted. Head of the Attorney General’s Office Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, stated that FA’s resignation demonstrated a commitment to maintaining integrity, objectivity, and neutrality in law enforcement, and was related to the legal process being handled by police investigators. Anang affirmed that the Attorney General’s Office respects the decision and ensures that all tasks and case handling within Jampidsus will continue according to applicable mechanisms. Previously, Febrie Adriansyah provided clarification regarding the discovery of cash and gold bars during a search of a house in the Sentul area, Bogor Regency, West Java, conducted by a joint team from the Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) and Polda Metro Jaya. In a press conference at the Jampidsus building in Jakarta on Friday (10/7), Febrie acknowledged that the searched house was his private residence. “Regarding the Sentul house, it is indeed the private residence of the Jampidsus, which has been owned for a long time. The ownership process can be traced from the beginning,” he said. During the search on Thursday (9/7), investigators seized 74 kilograms of gold bars, Rp100 million in cash, and foreign currency totalling 4,767,300 US dollars and 14,083,800 Singapore dollars. Investigators also secured a number of documents, mobile phones, and other items for the purposes of the investigation. The search was part of a joint investigation into alleged corruption in coal governance, alleged corruption at PT Asabri and PT Jiwasraya for the 2020–2025 period, and alleged money laundering in the settlement of debts of PT CBS to PT KNI.
