Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives Commission III has agreed to form a working committee to monitor the acid attack case against Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) Andrie Yunus.

The formation of the working committee was agreed upon during a special meeting of House Commission III regarding the case of the human rights defender at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

“Do fellow Commission III members approve the formation of the Commission III working committee on the acid attack case against human rights defender Andrie Yunus?” asked Chairman of House Commission III Habiburokhman, who received approval from the attending commission members.

In addition to the working committee, House Commission III will also monitor the case by holding working meetings with relevant parties, namely the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), and Andrie Yunus’s legal representatives.

“As a form of commitment to enforcing human rights protection,” said Habiburokhman, explaining the purpose of the intended working meetings.

At the same time, House Commission III is urging Polri and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to continue synergising in handling the case, guided by Article 170 of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

The article regulates connected trials. It is stipulated in paragraph (1) that criminal acts committed jointly by persons subject to general courts and military courts shall be tried by courts within the general judiciary.

This commission, which handles legal affairs, also requested the LPSK to immediately facilitate comprehensive protection for Andrie Yunus, his family, KontraS, and other related parties.

“House Commission III requests that the LPSK, together with all relevant parties, particularly the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance, provide the best services for the health recovery of brother Andrie Yunus,” said Habiburokhman.

Separately, House Commission III appreciates the performance of Polri and all related parties who have uncovered the incident and the identities of the suspected perpetrators of the acid attack.

It is known that Andrie Yunus was attacked by unknown persons in Central Jakarta on Thursday (12/3) night.

The incident occurred shortly after Andrie finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), which discussed the topic of militarism and the judicial review of the TNI Law.

In its developments, the Metro Jaya Regional Police have uncovered two initialled suspected perpetrators of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.

“We can inform that the two people we showed earlier, from this Polri data, one initialled BHC, and one initialled MAK,” said Director of General Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Pol. Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.

On the other hand, the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) stated that it has detained four personnel suspected of involvement in the case.

Puspom TNI Commander Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto in Jakarta on Wednesday said that the four personnel initialled NDP, SL, BWH, and ES were detained at Puspom TNI for further investigation.

“We convey that all four suspected perpetrators are members of the BAIS TNI Headquarters Detachment (Denma BAIS). So, not from any unit, but from Denma BAIS TNI,” he added.
