House Commission II to Visit Religious Organisations to Gather Input on Election Law Revision

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission II, M. Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, stated that his team will conduct visits to religious community organisations, in addition to non-parliamentary political parties, to gather aspirations regarding the revision of the Election Law. Speaking at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, Rifqi explained that the visits are a directive from Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. “He directed us to establish communication with non-parliamentary parties and mass organisations, such as Nahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, Walubi (Indonesian Buddhist Representatives), including Christian organisations, and so on,” he said. According to him, the visits are intended to absorb input regarding the future concept of elections and democracy. This aligns with the commission’s focus on refining the inventory of issues for the Election Law revision. However, he did not disclose the schedule for the visits. “We are currently waiting for Mr. Dasco’s schedule. From the Commission II side, as soldiers, we are ready,” he stated. Previously, Deputy Chairman of Commission II Aria Bima said that the commission would gather aspirations from non-parliamentary parties in the drafting of the Bill on the Amendment of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections. He noted that the aspiration gathering would be led by Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad by visiting the various political parties. “We must listen to the crucial issues, namely the parliamentary threshold, the presidential threshold, as well as electoral districts and the seat limit per district,” Aria said on Wednesday (24/6). In addition, Commission II will also address other electoral issues through the bill, such as Constitutional Court rulings, the neutrality of the apparatus, and strengthening oversight.
