House of Representatives Commission II Chairman Rifqinizamy Karsayuda has said that the revision of the Election Law is targeted to begin deliberations in July or August this year. Rifqinizamy explained that Commission II is currently undertaking two preliminary steps before bringing the prospective legislation to the formal deliberation stage.

“We are targeting around July or August for the Election Bill deliberations, after the full inventory of issues has been properly compiled and the normative framework has also been drawn up,” Rifqinizamy told reporters on Monday (23/2/2026).

Rifqi explained that the first step being taken is to invite a number of electoral stakeholders. He said the forum aims to accommodate aspirations and input regarding crucial issues and the electoral design that is needed.

“God willing, after the opening of the recess period, we will also continue this effort to ensure it proceeds. This is part of what is called meaningful participation,” he said.

“Meaningful participation, and we will ensure that their thoughts and views will become part of the compilation of the inventory of issues and the normative framework of the Election Bill that we will deliberate in House Commission II,” he added.

In addition, he said his party had requested the House’s Expert Body to compile the academic paper draft and the initial draft of the Election Bill. According to him, extensive input is needed to compile these documents.

“Equally important, we also need to convey that the inventory of issues will also be requested from all political parties, where there are eight political parties represented in House Commission II, reflected in eight factions. So that we can also obtain notes from the leaders of those political parties,” he explained.

The NasDem politician said his side is also considering inviting non-parliamentary parties to the deliberation forum. However, he has not yet confirmed when such invitations would be made.

“Whether non-parliamentary political parties will be invited to House Commission II — that has been on our minds, and God willing, when the time comes, we will invite them to obtain their thoughts and views regarding the design of our future electoral system from their perspective,” he said.
