House Commission II Still Gathering Aspirations for Election Bill During This Session
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission II, Aria Bima, stated that his commission has scheduled a Hearing of General Opinions by inviting academics from various universities and several democracy research institutions during the Fifth Session of the 2025-2026 Parliamentary Year.
He said that aspirations will be presented by academics from the University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, Airlangga University, and Padjadjaran University. According to him, the crucial issues that need to be discussed concern the Constitutional Court’s decisions regarding the parliamentary threshold, presidential threshold, and central and regional elections.
“Yes, to complete the draft, the problems that we have compiled. Together with (the preparation of) the draft, because the expert body has held several meetings with us,” said Aria at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He conveyed that all aspirations submitted to Commission II of the House of Representatives by various parties in those meetings have been handed over to the House Expert Body (BKD).
“And we have also received various inputs in the form of draft Bill designs from the expert body,” he said.
Regarding the start time of the discussions, according to him, Commission II of the House of Representatives is also still awaiting approval from the House leadership to form a Working Committee for the Election Bill. He said that various Constitutional Court decisions on the Election Law are not easy to translate.
On the other hand, according to him, aspirations from various academic figures and democracy institutions also differ regarding the electoral system. To date, he stated that there is no definitive meeting point for the electoral system.
“So far, all final and binding Constitutional Court decisions have always been implemented by the House of Representatives. Well, this time, the various simulations we have conducted, we believe, will result in the best law,” he said.
