Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the House of Representatives’ Commission II, Muhammad Khozin, stated that the designation of the Chairman of the Ombudsman Republic of Indonesia (ORI), Hery Susanto, as a suspect in the alleged corruption case involving nickel mining business governance must serve as a valuable lesson for the institution.

“This incident must become a valuable lesson for ORI to work in accordance with its duties and functions, uphold integrity, and honour the oath of office,” Khozin said in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

The legislator in the field of domestic governance admitted to being shocked and concerned about this event, especially since the ORI Chairman for the 2026–2031 period had only been inaugurated by President Prabowo a few days prior.

Nevertheless, he respects the legal process carried out by law enforcement authorities.

He also upholds the presumption of innocence principle in the ongoing legal process.

“I urge ORI to immediately carry out internal consolidation so that the duties, main functions, and roles mandated to ORI, particularly in supervising public services, can run optimally and not be disrupted by the ongoing legal process,” he added.

Previously, the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) designated ORI Chairman for 2026–2031, Hery Susanto, as a suspect in the alleged criminal corruption case in nickel mining business governance activities from 2013 to 2025.

Director of Investigation of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the AGO, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that Hery allegedly committed this criminal act while serving as an ORI commissioner for the 2021–2026 period.

“The designation of the suspect was carried out after the investigation team obtained sufficient evidence through a series of investigation actions, searches, and others,” he said at the Jampidsus Building of the AGO, Jakarta, on Thursday (16/4).

Syarief said Hery is alleged to have received a sum of money from PT TSHI to arrange assistance for the company regarding issues related to the calculation of state non-tax revenue (PNBP).

After being designated as a suspect, Hery underwent detention at the Salemba State Detention House Branch of the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office for 20 days.
