House Commission I: Withdrawal of TNI from Lebanon Must Be Thoroughly Evaluated, Not Rushed
Three Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers attached to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping contingent were once again injured in an explosion in El Adeisse, southern Lebanon. Deputy Chairman of House Commission I Dave Laksono has called for a total evaluation by the government regarding the safety of Indonesian soldiers in conflict areas.
“Every incident affecting TNI soldiers in Lebanon serves as material for a comprehensive evaluation by the TNI, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the United Nations,” said Dave when contacted on Sunday (5/4/2026).
The three TNI soldiers were injured in an explosion that occurred on Saturday (3/4). This number adds to the list of TNI personnel in Lebanon who have become casualties after three TNI soldiers were also killed in an Israeli attack explosion.
Dave then touched on the potential withdrawal of TNI troops from Lebanon. He stated that the decision must be taken through careful consideration.
“The withdrawal of troops is certainly not a decision that can be taken hastily, but rather must go through mature strategic considerations. Indonesia has a strong commitment to the global peacekeeping mandate, and the presence of TNI soldiers in UNIFIL is part of that responsibility,” he said.
According to Dave, the government must evaluate the safety procedures for TNI soldiers in Lebanon. He also reminded that Indonesia must continue to contribute to global peacekeeping missions through UNIFIL.
“The stance that needs to be affirmed is to place the safety of soldiers as the top priority, while ensuring that Indonesia’s contribution to the UNIFIL mission continues to be carried out with full honour,” Dave stated.
“Measured preventive steps and constructive diplomacy are key to minimising risks, while affirming that Indonesia’s role on the international stage remains strategically valuable and respected by the global community,” he added.
