House Commission I urges security forces to boost measures after KKB burns plane in Papua

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Dave Laksono, has requested that security forces increase security measures in a measured manner, while maintaining a humanistic approach and adhering to legal corridors, following the burning of a PT AMA aircraft by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua.

According to him, this incident demonstrates that the threat to public security remains real and requires serious attention from the state. Therefore, he emphasised that the safety of civilians must be the top priority.

“Commission I of the DPR RI expresses deep concern over the incident of the aircraft burning by the KKS in Papua, which threatens the safety of civilians, including those undertaking religious and humanitarian missions,” said Dave in Jakarta on Friday.

He stated that increasing security is not merely about adding personnel, but also about strengthening cross-institutional coordination, risk mapping, and the involvement of local governments and community leaders in maintaining stability.

To this end, he will push for a thorough evaluation of security patterns in Papua, ensuring that every policy taken is not only reactive but also preventive and sustainable.

With the right steps, he is confident that Papua can become a peaceful, safe, and prosperous living space for all Indonesian people.

He also committed to continuously monitoring security policies to ensure they remain focused on protecting civilians and respecting human rights.

“We believe that through synergy between the TNI, Polri, local governments, and the community, a sense of security can be restored while simultaneously strengthening public trust in the state,” he said.

Data gathered by ANTARA reveals that the ill-fated aircraft, piloted by US national Nicholas F. Goselin, was flying from Wamena to Balinggama carrying seven passengers. The incident resulted in the death of the pilot.

The seven passengers on the AMA aircraft bound for Balinggama were Eston Sobolim, Kluenang Sobolim, Toni Balingga, Elina Sobolim, Ona Sobolim, Lisenia Balingga, and Vaince Amo Hoso.
