The Chairman of Commission I of the DPR, Utut Adi.Adianto, has requested that his colleagues and the government refrain from releasing the draft Cyber Security and Resilience Bill to the public. Utut believes that such a move could potentially trigger the emergence of hoaxes if the draft circulates amongst the populace.

This statement was made following the submission of the List of Disagreements and Notes (DIM) regarding the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill by Commission I of the DPR to the government, held in the Commission I meeting room at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (29/06/2026). He initially advised Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights, Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, to establish a robust legislative drafting team.

“Regarding the government, we leave it entirely to them. I only ask, Mr Edward, please form a strong team. A diligent team. Diligence is important, Sir, because processes like this can often become very tedious,” Utut stated during the meeting.

Utut also requested that the draft Bill not be widely distributed. The Deputy Secretary-General of the PDI-P party assessed that hoaxes could emerge if the draft Bill were to circulate publicly.

“At this stage, I am also requesting that these drafts should not be released yet, because it will lead to too many hoaxes. Once we have progressed through the stages, if it is truly required, we will provide it to the public. That is all, ladies and gentlemen, the rest remains as usual,” he said.

In response, Deputy Minister Edward thanked Commission I of the DPR regarding the Bill. He stated that his department would proceed to discuss the DIM submitted by the DPR to the government.

“Moving forward, we will conduct internal meetings to respond to the DIM from the DPR and will soon notify the Working Committee (Panja) as to when we can begin discussions,” he said.
