House Commission I: Prabowo Should Be Given Opportunity to Defend Palestine at Board of Peace
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of House of Representatives Commission I, Utut Adianto, said that President Prabowo Subianto should be given the opportunity to defend against the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Palestine, through his participation in the Security Council or Board of Peace (BoP) forum.
He said that all elements of the Indonesian nation naturally support Palestinian independence. Various community groups have demonstrated dozens of times to voice support for Palestine.
“Now President Prabowo is taking a step forward — let’s give him the chance. Without such a step, it would all just be empty sloganeering,” said Utut after attending an iftar gathering hosted by a political party in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to him, Indonesia’s participation in the BoP forum represents a step forward in creating peace. He therefore supports the President’s efforts to speak at the BoP forum.
Nevertheless, he said Commission I of the House of Representatives emphasised that Indonesia must not become involved in any armed conflict.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto revealed that the inaugural Board of Peace meeting held on Thursday (19 February) would discuss efforts to achieve peace in Gaza, Palestine.
Prabowo made the remarks at a Business Forum with the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C., United States, on Wednesday afternoon (18 February) local time.
“I am here at the invitation of the President of the United States to attend a very important Board of Peace meeting. This is the first official meeting of the Board of Peace to discuss the implementation and continuation of the ceasefire in Gaza. We continue to work towards paving the way for a real and sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue,” said Prabowo.
