House Commission I Chairman: Give Prabowo the Chance to Attend the Board of Peace
Chairman of House of Representatives Commission I, Utut Adianto, has responded to President Prabowo Subianto’s plan to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in the United States, calling on all parties to give the president their support.
“Firstly, we all support Palestine, agreed? If I count the number of times our PKS colleagues have demonstrated wearing their scarves, it’s been dozens of times. This is a cause we have consistently championed. And we from PDI Perjuangan fully support it,” said Utut after attending an iftar gathering with the NasDem Party in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
Utut said all parties must now give President Prabowo Subianto the opportunity to fight for Palestinian independence through the Board of Peace established by Trump. He maintained that Indonesia’s principled position on Palestinian independence remains unchanged.
“Now, Pak Prabowo is taking action. Let’s give him the chance. Without such action, it would just be empty sloganeering. Pak Prabowo is taking a step forward. This is already one step ahead. We support it,” he said.
“Because the playing field involves different variables — the Israeli side, the Hamas side, and the Mahmoud Abbas side. Our message is that we must not become involved in the fighting,” he added.
President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Washington DC on Wednesday, 18 February. Prabowo was set to attend the inaugural Board of Peace meeting on Thursday, 19 February. The president emphasised the importance of the meeting for implementing and sustaining the ceasefire in Gaza.
“As you know, I am here at the invitation of the President of the United States for a very important meeting of the Board of Peace. This is the first official meeting of the council, which was established to address the implementation and sustainability of the ceasefire in Gaza. We are striving to continue paving the way towards a real and lasting solution for the Palestinian issue,” said Prabowo at the Business Summit at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC on Wednesday local time.
In addition, Prabowo is also set to hold bilateral talks with President Donald Trump to sign an agreement on reciprocal trade.
