House Collapses on Benhil Riverbank, Gabions Installed to Prevent Further Landslides
A house in Bendungan Hilir (Benhil), Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, collapsed on Friday morning. The Central Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency immediately carried out emergency handling by installing gabions to prevent the landslide from spreading. “Since Friday afternoon, the Central Jakarta SDA Agency has followed up on the incident,” said Central Jakarta SDA Agency Head Adrian Mara Maulana in a statement on Friday (26/6/2026). According to Adrian, the initial step taken was to install gabions around the subsidence point. This temporary measure aims to restrain soil movement so that the landslide does not expand to other areas. “Currently, temporary handling is being carried out immediately by installing gabions so that the landslide does not spread to other points,” he said. Based on a preliminary identification, the collapse of the building was triggered by several factors. One of them was abrasion that eroded the river border area. “On Friday (26/6), an incident of a building collapse occurred in the Ciliwung River Segment, Karet Floodgate West Flood Canal, Central Jakarta. Based on a preliminary identification, the incident was triggered by several factors, including abrasion,” he explained. He added that the incident location is at the confluence of the West Flood Canal and the Krukut River. Furthermore, the collapsed building stood in a river border area that is indeed prone to landslides. “The incident point is in the confluence area between the West Flood Canal (KBB) and the Krukut River. In addition, the collapsed building was also located in the river border area, making it prone to landslides,” he stated.
