House approves Destry Damayanti as BI new governor

Damayanti succeeds Perry Warjiyo, who resigned from his post on July 25. Then, Aida S. Budiman will step into the senior deputy governor role vacated by Damayanti.

The commission also endorsed Solikin M. Juhro as the central bank’s deputy governor for the five-year term.

“The replacement process for the governor, senior deputy governor, and deputy governor has been carried out. We have completed our duties at the commission level,” the Commission XI Chairman Mukhamad Misbakhun said in Jakarta on Thursday.

The approvals follow two consecutive days of fit-and-proper tests.

On Wednesday (August 26), legislators screened Damayanti and Budiman, who were the sole candidates for their respective roles as proposed in a presidential letter.

On Thursday afternoon, the commission selected Juhro over M. Anwar Bashori. Both were government-proposed candidates for the deputy governor post.

Juhro has served as the head of the central bank’s macroprudential policy department since June 2023.

“We made the selection through deliberation and consensus, and we will schedule their official appointment at the upcoming parliamentary plenary session on Tuesday, September 1, 2026,” Misbakhun noted.
