A fire destroyed a house and three business stalls in Cewonikit, Pau Village, Langke Rembong District, Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), in the early hours of Saturday (18/7/2026). Total material losses from the incident are estimated to reach hundreds of millions of rupiah.

Pau Village Secretary Paulus Herman Nanggar stated that the homeowner was not present when the fire broke out. The 7x9 metre house belonged to a 50-year-old PLN installation employee named Yohanes Joni Garus.

“The house was empty. The owner had gone to West Manggarai the previous afternoon,” Paulus said on Saturday afternoon.

Paulus revealed that the three business stalls destroyed in the fire belonged to different individuals. The stalls were typically used for selling vegetables, a coffee grinding operation, and a tyre repair workshop.

According to Paulus, the fire was already raging when firefighters arrived at the scene. He noted that the firefighting team focused on extinguishing the flames in areas adjacent to other residents’ houses.

“To prevent the fire from spreading,” Paulus explained.

Paulus confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident. The preliminary suspicion is that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
