The Task Force for Mitigation of Termination of Employment, consisting of government representatives and members of the House of Representatives (DPR), held a closed-door meeting to map out potential layoffs of workers in a number of domestic companies. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, who acts as the task force chairman, said the meeting was held due to the development of information regarding the threat of layoffs for workers at several companies. “Earlier we coordinated to map out which companies and what the problems are, so that we can take mitigation steps,” Prasetyo said at the DPR building, Jakarta, on Friday, 26 June 2026. From the government, the meeting was also attended by Minister of Manpower Yassierli, Special Advisor to the President for Manpower and Labour Welfare Said Iqbal, and a representative from the National Police’s Manpower Desk. Meanwhile, the legislative side was led by Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Deputy Speaker of the DPR Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal. In addition, the President of the All-Indonesia Workers Union Confederation (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea attended as a labour representative. Andi Gani assessed that the meeting he attended was effective because the government will announce a policy regarding industrial gas which has experienced a price surge. The increase in industrial gas prices is the cause of pressure on the ceramics industry, threatening it with bankruptcy. One confirmed case is the layoff of 55,000 employees of PT Granito. “Three days ago the company summoned and declared all workers laid off. Because of that, the meeting decided that within one to two days the government will immediately announce [a policy] regarding industrial gas,” Andi said. He hopes the government’s intervention can save the ceramics industry from crisis. Furthermore, Andi also spoke of the potential layoff of 150,000 workers in the coal and nickel mining sector due to production target cuts set through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Work Plan and Budget (RKAB). With the appointment of Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi as Chair of the Layoff Task Force, Andi hopes cross-ministerial communication will be more effective and able to produce mutually beneficial decisions for employers and workers. “To fellow workers who are currently awaiting the results of the meeting, I assure you the government is on the side of workers and also employers, a win-win solution,” he said. Prasetyo Hadi confirmed that the government has coordinated to address the industrial gas issue based on the direction of President Prabowo Subianto. He also promised a solution would be delivered within the next 1 to 2 days. “We will make a decision to ensure that activities in sectors requiring gas, especially in the industrial sector, can run as they should,” said the Gerindra Party politician. Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the Layoff Mitigation Task Force will meet regularly for further coordination. “The DPR will later be led by Mr Cucun Syamsurijal,” said the Daily Chair of the Gerindra Party.
