Regulations protecting workers in the online transport sector, including online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) and couriers, will soon be strengthened.

The DPR RI, together with the government, is currently finalising improvements to the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) to guarantee the welfare of workers in the digital ecosystem.

This concrete step was evident in a Coordination Meeting led directly by Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, at Nusantara III Building, Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta.

The strategic cross-ministerial meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), the Ministry of SMEs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of State Secretariat, and the Ministry of Law.

One of the main points agreed upon was the expansion of the scope of Presidential Regulation Number 27 of 2026. The regulation, which initially focused only on passenger transport, has now been expanded to include protection for goods and food delivery couriers.

The division of authority among ministries has also been agreed upon to regulate this ecosystem in a more targeted manner.

“Tariffs for goods and food are regulated by Komdigi, passenger transport tariffs by the Ministry of Transportation, while online transport operators will be overseen by the Ministry of SMEs,” said Dasco on Tuesday, 18 August 2026.

Dasco explained that this coordination meeting is a concrete manifestation of the DPR’s oversight function in absorbing the aspirations of online transport workers.

In line with this, Minister of SMEs Maman Abdurrahman emphasised that the government will not formulate regulations unilaterally. In the near future, his ministry is preparing to engage all stakeholders for the final stage.

“We will invite community representatives, ojol associations, and also the app operators to meet and absorb final aspirations,” he said.

On the other hand, Deputy Minister of Komdigi Nezar Patria confirmed the involvement of various platforms and driver partners to formulate a mutually beneficial tariff midpoint.

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi also revealed that the expansion of this regulation is in line with the instructions of President Prabowo Subianto and the DPR leadership. Specifically for passenger transport, protection rules have already begun to be implemented through a Minister of Transportation Decree since 1 July 2026, under which commission deductions for app operators are capped at a maximum of 8 percent, allowing drivers to take home at least 92 percent of their income.
