Hours of happiness

I am all in favor of "Happy Hour," as advertised by Hotel Kristal (page 2, The Jakarta Post, March 25, 1996, and previously). Happy Hour is actually often a couple of hours, e.g. 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. -- but nine hours (11.00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.) must surely qualify for the Guinness Book of Records!

But who is happy? Surely not the customers, for the advertisement promises "50 percent on all drinks," i.e. drinks cost 50 percent more. When it's "50 percent off all drinks" I might drop in for a few hours one day!
