Lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea has announced his withdrawal as legal counsel for former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Attorney General’s Office, Febrie Adriansyah. “I informed my client, Febrie, now the former Jampidsus, two days ago that I am resigning,” Hotman said in Jakarta on Thursday. Hotman stated that the reason for his resignation was to focus on his health. He revealed he is suffering from a pinched nerve. On 9 July 2026, he is scheduled to undergo surgery in Singapore. A few days after becoming Febrie Adriansyah’s legal counsel, his heavy workload caused the pain to return, prompting him to focus on treatment. “The doctor’s instructions were clear: no work for two weeks. Just four days later, I felt the pain worsening,” he said. Regarding his resignation, Hotman said Febrie Adriansyah accepted and understood the decision. “He was understanding, it’s fine. He is my friend, and he understood,” he remarked. As for a replacement, Hotman noted that Massagus Farizi is still acting as Febrie’s legal counsel. “There is lawyer Mr Farizi. He is a retired senior prosecutor, and he used to work with me, was once my subordinate, and there is another team,” he said. Previously, on Friday (17/7), Hotman stated he had received a power of attorney from Febrie Adriansyah to assist in the investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU) in the handling of the PT Asabri case for the 2020–2024 period by the Attorney General’s Office.
