Hotman Paris Says Three Police Officers in Jambi Rape Case Could Face Criminal Charges
Jakarta - A lawyer, Hotman Paris, believes that three police officers in the alleged rape case of a teenage girl in Jambi could be subject to criminal charges. According to him, they are not only deserving of ethical sanctions but also had roles in the sequence of events. This statement was made by Hotman during a press conference with the victim in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Wednesday (14/4/2026). He explained that under criminal law, those who assist or facilitate a criminal act can also be prosecuted. “If the penalty for rape is a maximum of 12 years, then those who facilitate it would face two-thirds of that, which is eight years,” he said. Hotman assessed that the roles of the three rogue police officers cannot be considered passive. Based on the victim’s testimony, they are said to have transported the victim to the first incident location, been present nearby during the event, and then transported her to the second location. He also mentioned that after the first incident, the victim, in a weakened state, was allegedly moved by several people to another location where the rape is suspected to have occurred again. “Without the involvement of those three people, the second rape would not have happened, or it could have been prevented,” said Hotman. The victim’s legal representative, Romiyanto, revealed that they will pursue further legal steps by reporting the case to national police headquarters on Thursday (15/4/2026). “To make this matter clear and transparent—who did what and what their roles were,” he said on the same occasion. Briptu VI, Bripda MIS, and Bripda HAM underwent an ethics hearing on Tuesday (7/4/2026). They witnessed and briefly assisted the four main perpetrators in carrying the victim from the house into the car. In that hearing, they were found to have violated regulations as police officers, failed to report violations of the police code of ethics/discipline/criminal acts, and jointly conspired to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages. In addition to being placed on special assignment, Briptu VI, Bripda MIS, and Bripda HAM were also sanctioned to apologise verbally before the ethics hearing of the National Police Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP) and are required to undergo one month of mental guidance and professional knowledge training. “The alleged violators’ behaviour was declared disgraceful,” said the Head of Public Relations of Jambi Provincial Police, Commissioner Erlan Munaji, on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
