Hotman Paris Baffled by Criticism of Cabinet Secretary Teddy: 'I've Never Seen Him Make a Mistake'
Prominent lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea has spoken out regarding the various criticisms aimed at Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya. He considers President Prabowo Subianto’s appointment of Teddy to be entirely natural, as every leader will appoint people they truly trust to important positions, especially those involving strategic and confidential matters. “If I were a leader, I would certainly have to appoint someone I truly trust. Likewise in the office, for all confidential aspects, I appoint people I trust,” he said, as quoted on Monday, 22 June 2026. He admitted he does not understand the reasoning behind the persistent criticism directed at Teddy, as he has never seen Prabowo’s trusted aide make a mistake or issue a problematic statement. “I don’t understand why so many people seem to be blaming Seskab Teddy. I have never seen him make a mistake or any statement whatsoever,” he stated. Hotman also touched on Teddy’s track record when he served as an adjutant to the Minister of Defence, a post then held by Prabowo Subianto. According to him, Teddy was one of the adjutants who demonstrated good attitude and performance in carrying out his duties. “When he was an adjutant to the Minister of Defence, at that time Mr Prabowo, he was one of the adjutants who truly had the right attitude in all matters,” he explained. Therefore, he considers Prabowo’s decision to appoint Teddy as Cabinet Secretary to be something natural and understandable. “Of course President Prabowo appointed him as Seskab in all respects. That is very natural. That is very natural,” he stressed. Furthermore, Hotman expressed bafflement at what he sees as various efforts to constantly find fault with Teddy. He even declared his dislike for the world of politics. “That’s why I don’t understand why various criticisms are being sought here and there, I’m confused. That’s why I don’t like politics,” he said. Hotman also emphasised that he has never had any desire to become a bureaucrat, despite his long-standing friendship with Prabowo. “I have never wanted to be a bureaucrat, even though it’s Mr Prabowo, I’ve known him for 25 years. No way, I’m happy,” he concluded.
