Hotel's union want to be consulted
JAKARTA (JP): Union representatives at the Mandarin Oriental
Jakarta hotel are demanding that the management consult them in
labor disputes.
The union officials, who held an internal meeting on Saturday,
appealed to their colleagues to stay calm.
Officials said around 100 employees protested to the
management on Thursday. They demanded that the hotel unit of the
All Indonesia Workers Union (SPSI), chaired by Undang Suparman,
be consulted in labor cases.
The hotel's assistant manager Erwin Setiadi declined to
comment. He only said the employee have not been dismissed.
The management previously stated that an employee, who was
found taking two bath mats without permission, would be dismissed
without consultation with the union, or the Ministry of Manpower,
an official, who declined to be named, said.
According to Undang, the protest followed the suspension of
the employee.
He refused to reveal the employee's name. (03)
