Hotels offer high-speed Internet access

YOGYAKARTA: Star-rated hotels in Yogyakarta are competing to
offer wireless, high-speed Internet connections to meet
customers' demands for rapid access to information.

The five-star Melia Purosani Hotel on Jl Suryotomo offers a
24-hour wireless service in its lobby area, Soka Lounge,
Parangsari Poolside Garden and in its Ching San, and El Patio
restaurants.

"We call these areas 'hotspots'," public relations manager
Atik Damarjati said. The newly introduced facility used the WiFi
or wireless fidelity technology, which would enhance customers'
Internet communication and make it simpler to get connected, he
said.

Similar hotspots also go online this weekend at the four-star
Santika Jogja Hotel on Jl. Sudirman. The facility will be
available throughout the hotel, including guests' rooms.

"With the facility, users of notebooks or PDAs equipped with
WiFi cards can access the Internet at considerably high speeds,"
public relations officer Erma Wheny said. The hotel has invited
musician Idang Rasjidi to perform at the launch of the service to
be held on Saturday evening. --JP
