Hotels in Sudirman-Thamrin Asked to Facilitate Ride-Hailing Services in Lobby After Foreign Tourist Robbed at Bundaran HI

The Menteng Police Chief, Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, has requested hotels in the Sudirman-Thamrin area to provide pick-up facilities for ride-hailing services in their lobbies for guests, especially foreign tourists.

This measure comes after a robbery incident involving a foreign national from Italy in the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) area, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Braiel stated that the police will coordinate with hotel management to ensure that guests do not have to wait for ride-hailing vehicles on the roadside.

“We will coordinate with hotel management to ensure that ride-hailing services, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles, can pick up guests in the hotel lobby,” said Braiel on Friday (15/5/2026), as quoted in a Kompas TV broadcast.

“So that both Indonesian and foreign citizens who need ride-hailing services do not have to wait on the roadside,” he added.

However, Braiel assured that the overall security situation in Central Jakarta remains safe.

“In general, the security situation is safe,” he said.

Previously, a foreign national from Italy was the victim of a robbery in front of the HI Kempinski, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

The incident was recorded on a car’s dashboard camera, and the video went viral on social media.

In the video uploaded to the Instagram account @jakpus.terkini, the victim is seen standing on the side of the road in the Bundaran HI area while using his mobile phone.

The victim chased after the perpetrator and eventually fell to the ground.

Braiel said that the victim was waiting for a ride-hailing service at the time.

“While the victim was waiting for a ride-hailing service on the roadside, a motorcyclist suddenly approached and snatched his belongings,” he said.
