Singkawang — The head of the Singkawang City Tourism, Youth and Sports Department, Mokhlis, has stated that several hotels in Singkawang are fully booked ahead of the Cap Go Meh Festival 2026 celebration.

He noted that the city has a total of 47 hotels prepared to accommodate tourist visits during the Cap Go Meh celebration. “Of this number, several hotels are already fully booked. These include Swiss-Belinn Singkawang, Hotel Mahkota Singkawang, Hotel Sentosa Singkawang, Hotel Hongkong Inn Singkawang, Hotel Cyndhai Singkawang, Hotel City Room Singkawang and Bobo Inn Singkawang,” he said in Singkawang on Friday (27 February).

He explained that although some hotels remain available, occupancy rates are expected to continue increasing as the Cap Go Meh celebration peaks on 3 March. According to Mokhlis, the Cap Go Meh Festival, which is an annual agenda and known nationally, is projected to again attract a surge of both domestic and international tourists.

“The Cap Go Meh momentum always impacts an increase in tourist visits. This certainly provides a positive effect on the circulation of the community’s economy, ranging from the hospitality sector, culinary, to micro and small enterprises,” he said.

The Singkawang City Tourism, Youth and Sports Department urged tourists planning to attend the Cap Go Meh Festival to make room reservations immediately to avoid running out of accommodation. He added that the department continues to monitor room availability data and is ready to assist tourists in obtaining information about hotels that still have capacity.

He assessed the increase in hotel occupancy rates as a positive indicator of recovery and growth in the regional tourism sector, whilst strengthening Singkawang’s position as a premier destination based on culture and tolerance in West Kalimantan.
