Hotels in Mecca Provide Laundry Facilities and Drying Areas for Hajj Pilgrims
HOTEL accommodations for Hajj pilgrims in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, now provide laundry facilities as well as an area for drying clothes, both Ihram garments and other clothing.
For the SOC 8 group of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims from Brebes Regency, Central Java, who are staying at the Al Khulafa Al Fedy Hotel Sector 1 Syisah, the laundry and drying areas are located on the ground floor. This includes a special room for washing and drying clothes.
“The hotel does provide a laundry area or free top-loading washing machines along with a dedicated drying area, on the same floor as the food logistics collection point,” said Brebes Regency Hajj Officer (PHD), Azmi Asmuni Majid, in an official statement on Saturday (16/5/2026).
Azmi Majid explained that although the hotel also provides paid laundry services, pilgrims prefer to wash their own clothes if the queues for the service are full.
“Because besides being able to save money, it is also an opportunity to get to know each other, build relationships and share stories between pilgrims, thus creating a sense of family,” said Azmi Majid.
According to Azmi Majid, during this 2026 Hajj season, hotels are required by the Saudi Arabian government to prohibit drying clothes on rooftops to maintain safety, security and aesthetics. Therefore, the hotel has prepared a special drying area near the laundry area.
He urged pilgrims who wish to wash their clothes to choose the best time. Because there are many pilgrims in each group. It is recommended to wash at quiet times, such as after Isya prayer or before Subuh prayer to avoid long queues. The busiest times are in the morning around six o’clock and after Asar prayer.
“While in Saudi Arabia, pilgrims are prohibited from drying clothes carelessly outside windows or balconies to maintain the aesthetics of the city,” explained Azmi Majid.
A pilgrim from Brebes, SOC8 group, Faizin, said that the free laundry and drying facilities were very helpful. Moreover, there are many machines, 10 washing machines. “The drying area is quite large even though it takes a long time to dry, about a day because it is indoors,” said Faizin.
It is known that the government through the Ministry of Hajj has required all hotel accommodations for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in Mecca to provide laundry facilities and clothes drying areas.
