Hotel Sultan's Breakfast Buffet Becomes Silent Witness to Execution Process
The breakfast spread in the restaurant inside Hotel Sultan appeared to be a silent witness to the execution process carried out by the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday (18/6).
CNNIndonesia.com observed that a wide variety of food, from traditional dishes to international cuisine, laid out in several display cases in the restaurant, remained largely untouched. From salads and Western food to Asian dishes, much of the fare was still available in the restaurant as if undisturbed.
Several dispensers containing various juices, milk, and cereal also appeared to be quite full.
Based on observations at the location, only two tables appeared to have been used by guests. On them, used plates were visible, presumably from guests who had eaten breakfast.
For context, a number of guests were trapped inside Hotel Sultan during the execution process, which turned chaotic as officers were blocked by a crowd outside the building. The hotel guests were only able to leave the hotel after officers successfully took control of the land.
The execution process was marred by unrest. A crowd resisting the eviction threw objects at the executors and the ranks of officers. However, the resistance was eventually subdued.
For the execution, security and escort assistance was deployed involving 3,161 joint personnel from the TNI-Polri and local government.
As a result of the unrest, police arrested 69 people. Police confirmed that the dozens of people arrested were not employees of Hotel Sultan.
Additionally, 29 people were reported injured due to the chaos. The breakdown includes 26 police officers, one TNI member, and two civilians who were at the location.
The legal counsel for the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK), Chandra M. Hamzah, stated that his party is currently carrying out the process of vacating the hotel.
"Today, 18 June 2026, the Central Jakarta District Court has carried out the eviction execution, a real execution, in connection with the ruling from the Central Jakarta District Court for the area we know as Block 15, formerly Hotel Sultan," Chandra told reporters.
