Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM and CEO of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, has revealed plans to reorganise the former Hotel Sultan area in Blok 15, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), following its execution on Thursday, 17 June 2026. The former Hotel Sultan building will be demolished and developed into a new, more integrated area. “At this moment I may not be able to say, but the plan is to turn it into a new area. Eventually, yes (the former Hotel Sultan will be demolished),” Rosan said after meeting President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday, 22 June 2026. President Prabowo has mandated that the GBK area, including the former Hotel Sultan, should become a new icon for Indonesia. The area’s planning must be carried out meticulously and comprehensively. “There will be hotels, perhaps more than one. But the President’s message is to make this a new icon for Indonesia, so the planning must be comprehensive and provide a real impact on the economy and also on the Indonesian people,” Rosan stated. Rosan explained that the former Hotel Sultan area and the entire 200-hectare GBK complex will be redesigned into a world-class sports tourism destination. “So GBK will remain, but everything will be enhanced and perfected to an international or world-class standard, so it can become a new economic centre in Jakarta,” Rosan clarified.
