The execution of the eviction of the former Hotel Sultan building in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Jakarta, on Thursday (18/6/2026), briefly turned chaotic, prompting officers to deploy a high-pressure water cannon to disperse demonstrators rejecting the process. Based on observations at the scene, the chaos erupted after the Central Jakarta District Court bailiff read out the eviction execution ruling. A number of demonstrators, acting on behalf of former Hotel Sultan employees and indigenous community members, staged a protest against the execution. The situation began to heat up when a group of people inside the former Hotel Sultan building area started throwing bottles and stones at officers. This action triggered tension between the demonstrators and the authorities guarding the location. Several members of the crowd and officers pushed each other amidst efforts to secure the execution. As conditions became increasingly unconducive, officers deployed a water cannon vehicle to repel the crowd holding out at the site. The crowd was eventually pushed back after the water spraying by officers. As of the writing of this report, the situation around the location has gradually become conducive. Several demonstrators were seen being secured by security officers and placed into police detention vehicles.
