Hotel Sultan Execution: Dasco Vows to Coordinate Employee Fate with Government
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has affirmed his commitment to overseeing the fate of former Hotel Sultan employees following the land clearance execution carried out by the government on Thursday morning. Dasco stated he will immediately coordinate with the State Secretariat Ministry (Kemensetneg) to ensure the workers continue to receive attention and opportunities to work.
“I hope and will coordinate with Kemensetneg. We hope that the management later undertaken by Kemensetneg will provide a place for the employees who have been working there all this time,” Dasco said when met at the DPR Building in Jakarta.
The government officially executed the clearance of the land and buildings of the former Hotel Sultan, located in Block 15 of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex in Senayan. This step was taken to restore the function of the GBK area as a state asset after it had been managed by PT Indobuildco for approximately 50 years.
Responding to concerns about mass layoffs, Deputy State Secretary Minister (Wamensesneg) Juri Ardiantoro assured that the government will not abandon the workers. He emphasised the principle of “humanising” the former employees during this transition process.
“We do not want them to become the sacrificed party. We will register them, invite communication, and bring them along to continue activities at GBK,” Juri stressed during a press conference after the execution.
As a concrete measure, Kemensetneg, through the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK), has taken steps to address the situation. Juri urged employees not to worry, as the government is opening the widest possible communication channels to accommodate their need for information regarding the future continuity of their employment.
