Hotel occupancy in Makassar hits 90 percent during Dekranas 46th anniversary

The Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) for South Sulawesi, Anggiat Sinaga, stated that hotel occupancy in Makassar reached 90 percent during the 54th PKK HKG and the 46th Anniversary of the National Crafts Council (Dekranas) held from 8-12 July 2026. He noted that many hotels in Makassar achieved very high occupancy levels, with several fully booked. “We are grateful that this major PKK HKG and Dekranas anniversary event in Makassar has had a very significant impact on hotel occupancy rates,” he said in Makassar on Saturday. “Almost all hotels in Makassar have felt the benefits. Occupancy is estimated to have reached 85 to 90 percent, and some hotels are even full,” he added. The surge was almost double the hotel occupancy rate prior to the event. Hotel occupancy in Makassar previously ranged from 40 to 45 percent, before rising to around 85 to 90 percent. He explained that the even distribution of occupancy occurred because the activities were spread across two main locations. The Dekranas exhibition in the Trans Studio Mall (TSM) area drove high occupancy in hotels around Tanjung Bunga and Losari Beach. The increase was driven by the arrival of PKK and Dekranasda officials and members from all provinces, regencies, and cities across Indonesia attending various agendas. On average, participants stayed for about four days, which not only boosted occupancy rates but also extended their length of stay in Makassar, generating a broader economic impact. The longer stay stimulated supporting sectors such as restaurants, transportation, shopping centres, the creative industry, and MSMEs catering to participants’ needs. Although some hotels were fully booked, Anggiat mentioned that a few still had room availability of around 5 to 10 percent for the public or other guests arriving during the event.
