Hotel Indonesia workers stop protest

JAKARTA: The Hotel Indonesia (HI) labor union ceased its protest against the management's policy to dismiss 1,300 hotel staff. Instead, they will discuss their fate with the hotel's board of directors, union members and legislators said on Tuesday.

HI labor union secretary-general Soeryanto was quoted by Tempointeraktif.com on Friday that all employees were encouraged to still come in to work, although there has been no work to be done since the hotel stopped accepting guests on April 15.

The hotel will stop operations on April 30 to undergo renovations following its management takeover by PT Citra Karya Bumi Indah, a subsidiary of cigarette giant Djarum Group. -- JP
