Hotel Borobudur Jakarta Launches 'Discover Betawi Art & Culture' Programme for Jakarta's 499th Anniversary

In celebration of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary and the journey towards Jakarta’s 5th centenary in 2027, Hotel Borobudur Jakarta is presenting a thematic programme titled ‘Discover Betawi Art & Culture’, running from 19 June to 24 July 2026. Aligned with Jakarta’s vision as a Global City, this programme showcases the richness of Betawi art, culture, cuisine, and traditions as a vital part of the city’s identity, which has grown from cultural diversity and continues to evolve into the identity of Jakarta. Through various cultural activities, art performances, culinary experiences, and community events, Hotel Borobudur Jakarta invites the public to preserve and celebrate Betawi cultural heritage. The programme is organised in collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, the Betawi Cultural Institute, the Negeri Rempah Foundation, the Indonesian Culinary Academy, Just Yoga, the Indonesian Comedy Artists Association, Open Top Tour of Jakarta, the National Museum, Jakarta State University, and the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital. As the opening, an Opening Ceremony was held on 19 June 2026 featuring various Betawi cultural performances, including Palang Pintu and Traditional Betawi Dance by Jakarta State University. The event also included a cultural talk session with speakers such as Rano Karno, Dr. Tuti Tarwiyah Adi Sam, and Bram Kushardjanto. On this occasion, the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, expressed his appreciation for the hospitality industry’s consistency in supporting the preservation of Betawi culture. ‘This activity at Hotel Borobudur is not the first. Almost every year we have an MoU with several hotels. What does that mean? To elevate Betawi culture. For example, welcome drinks, then cakes, dances,’ said Rano Karno. He explained that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has currently established cooperation with a number of hotels to strengthen the promotion of Betawi culture as Jakarta’s identity. ‘We have 15 hotels that have already cooperated with the DKI government, including Hotel Borobudur. I don’t need to mention the others. If you also know about Jakarta Penuh Warna, the surrounding hotels are also part of our cooperation,’ he said. Throughout the programme period, the public can enjoy a variety of cultural and community activities offering a comprehensive Betawi experience. These activities include an SME Bazaar, Betawi Corner, Pasar Senggol, a Delman Experience, Betawi Cultural Talks, an Ondel-Ondel Parade, Temu Lokal, a Betawi Food Acculturation Competition, a Junior Culinary and Betawi Dance Competition, a Betawi Comedy Workshop and Coaching Clinic, Betawi art and cultural performances, Gambang Kromong, Gambus, and traditional Betawi children’s games. The programme is also enlivened by various wellness and community activities such as Just Fest Yoga, Now Reset: Yoga, Coral Breeze, and Uniqmind. As part of the Jakarta 499th anniversary celebrations, Hotel Borobudur Jakarta is also offering various special promotions inspired by the spirit of exploring Jakarta’s culture.
