The Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Service (PUPR) of Banten Province, Arlan Marzan, said the Banten provincial government would receive funding for facility construction from the central government. They are currently preparing an application for support.

“There is no nominal amount yet. We are drafting the work plan and the financing support request to the centre,” Arlan said on Friday, 22 May 2026.

According to Arlan, there will be upgrades in the area around the Banten International Stadium (BIS) in Serang City, as one of the sports hubs used for the PON. “The area of the sport centre will be reorganised and additional venues will be built,” he said.

Arlan said that the provincial government is already starting to build supporting facilities without relying on the APBN. The development funding will come from the Banten Provincial Budget (APBD). One of the works by PUPR Banten is the addition of parking facilities. “From 2026 it will be implemented gradually, using APBD,” he said.

Arlan targets the supporting facilities for PON XXIII to be completed by 2030. However, there will be an evaluation process to avoid shortages during the event. “The target for 2030 must be fully completed. In 2031, evaluation and refinement,” he said.

Earlier, Banten Province was set to host the 2032 Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON XXIII) together with Lampung Province. The designation was based on the conclusions of the Extraordinary National Sports Congress (Musornaslub) KONI 2026 attended by KONI central and regional officials at Hotel Pullman Central Park, Jakarta, on Thursday, 21 May.

The designation of Banten as host is stated in KONI Central Decree Number 05/Musornaslub/2026 on the Determination of the Host City for PON XXIII Year 2032. Banten Governor Andra Soni said the designation is an honour, pride, and certainly the people’s hope in Banten.

“Moreover, the designation will positively impact regional competitiveness in infrastructure development, economic growth, tourism sector, and human resource development and regional sporting achievements,” Andra Soni said in a written statement on Thursday, 21 May.

According to him, the designation of Banten as host will also provide positive energy and impact on increasing enthusiasm and public support for improving competitiveness and sports achievements in Banten Province.

“Also the enthusiasm to build synergy and collaboration between the Banten Provincial Government, KONI Banten, universities, business entities, or the industrial sector,” he added.
