Horta to play in Saphir Hotel

YOGYAKARTA: After a show in Jakarta, Brazilian jazz great Toninho Horta is scheduled to play at the Saphir Yogyakarta Hotel on Jl. Laksda Adisucipto.

Horta will play in the hotel's Mirah Lounge on May 29 from 9 p.m. onward. The program is being held in cooperation with the Saphir Yogyakarta, WartaJazz.com and the Jogja Jazz Club.

"A jam session with local musicians from Warta Jazz and the Jogja Jazz Club has also been scheduled for the program," a hotel public relations officer, Ike Wahyu, said.

Born Antonio Mauricio Horta De Melo, the composer, guitarist and vocalist Toninho Horta is well known among jazz lovers throughout the world, particularly in the U.S. and Japan.

"I hope Yogyakarta's jazz lovers here don't miss the performance," said Ike, adding that the program was being supported by Garuda Indonesia Airlines, Blass Sound System and Trijaya FM. -- JP
