A female university student with the initials LA (20) became the victim of a shooting in the Graha Indah housing complex, Jalan P Suryanata, Air Putih Village, Samarinda Ulu District, Samarinda, on Friday (12/6/2026) at around 10:25 p.m. local time. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and required medical treatment. The perpetrator of the shooting has the initials MZ (22) and was known to have a romantic relationship with the victim. Based on the perpetrator’s statement to the police, the victim was his girlfriend. However, LA revealed that her relationship with MZ had ended. “According to the perpetrator’s statement, the victim was his girlfriend, while the victim says they had already broken up,” said Samarinda Ulu Police Chief AKP Asriadi on Monday (15/6/2026). Police suspect that relationship issues triggered the shooting. Nevertheless, investigators are still looking into the exact motive of the perpetrator, who is currently undergoing intensive examination. “It is likely he could not accept being dumped, but we are also waiting for the results of the examination at the Samarinda Police Headquarters regarding the actual motive,” Asriadi stated. The Head of Public Relations for the Samarinda Police, Ipda Arie Soeharyadi, explained that the incident began when LA returned from university and was about to park her motorcycle at home. Suddenly, a gunshot was heard, followed by pain in her head, causing her to fall. “The victim stated that when she came home from university and was about to park her motorcycle at home, she suddenly heard a gunshot. The victim then fell while holding her head,” Arie clarified on Sunday (14/6/2026). Arie said LA suffered a gunshot wound to the back left side of her head. The case is currently being handled by investigators at the Samarinda Police Headquarters. Based on witness examinations and evidence collection, police managed to identify MZ. MZ was arrested on Saturday (13/6/2026) at around 2:00 a.m. local time on Jalan Ahmad Yani, Bukit Raya Village, Tenggarong Seberang District, Kutai Kartanegara. “From the investigation and witness statements, the suspect is alleged to have committed assault using an air rifle against the victim,” Arie explained.
