Horrifying Cargo Plane Crash Kills Five in Miami
A horrifying accident involving a cargo aircraft and a car has occurred in Miami, United States. The incident left five people dead.
As reported by AFP on Monday (7/9/2026), the Amazon-owned aircraft skidded off the runway at Miami International Airport. The plane struck several vehicles and caught fire.
“At least five people have lost their lives,” said Miami Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz, as quoted by the AFP news agency on Monday (7/9/2026).
Video footage shows flames and thick smoke billowing from the blue-and-white Boeing 767. The aircraft was reported to have arrived at around 2pm local time from Puerto Rico.
Some 60 fire engines were deployed to extinguish the blaze. The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department stated that the aircraft, operating as Prime Air Flight 7598, caught fire after colliding with vehicles.
“Firefighters are working to extinguish the flames and check on the victims,” the department wrote on the X platform.
The aircraft reportedly left the runway and struck vehicles near the airport area. All runways and taxiways were subsequently closed following the accident.
Amazon issued a statement saying the aircraft had experienced an incident whilst attempting to land.
“This is a rapidly evolving situation and we are still gathering details. We are working closely with local authorities and officials to understand exactly what happened,” said Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel.
Cause Under Investigation
United States authorities are investigating the cause of the Amazon-owned Boeing 767 cargo aircraft running off the runway at Miami International Airport. The chief of the Miami-Dade County fire department, Ray Jadallah, said three other people were rushed to trauma centres in a ‘critical condition’, and two more were being treated at a local hospital.
“Several victims were trapped inside the vehicles,” said Jadallah.
Jadallah said officers had to carry out a ‘complicated evacuation process’. This included, he said, a ‘search and rescue operation for the pilot and co-pilot trapped inside the aircraft’.
He did not clarify whether the pilot and co-pilot of the cargo aircraft had survived. The identities of the five deceased have not been released to the public.
He said a total of 60 fire service vehicles and nearly 200 personnel from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department were deployed to carry out the search and rescue operation, as well as firefighting efforts.
“The exact cause of this incident will be determined by the FAA and NTSB,” Jadallah said in his statement, referring to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The NTSB, in a statement on the social media platform X, said it had deployed a specialist team to investigate the aircraft’s runway excursion, which occurred on Sunday (6/9).
