Horrific Incident: Three Students in Central Lombok Set Ablaze by Peer, One Dead
The Central Lombok Resort Police (Polres Lombok Tengah), West Nusa Tenggara, are investigating an alleged arson attack against three students at an Islamic boarding school (ponpes) in Aik Dars Village, Batukliang District, which resulted in one death.
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Lombok Resort Police, AKP Punguam Hutahaean, stated on Wednesday that the investigation commenced after the police received a report from the victim’s parents. “We received new information today from the report of the victim’s parents,” he said.
Hutahaean added that investigators are immediately following up on the report by questioning relevant parties and collecting physical evidence from the scene.
The case gained significant attention after the Chairman of the Mataram City Child Protection Agency (LPA), Joko Jumadi, highlighted a video circulating on Facebook. The video, uploaded by an account named @Tiara Erna BenKinara Cahya, showed the condition of one of the victims suffering from burns. In the footage, the victim is seen grimacing in pain with several parts of their body wrapped in bandages while receiving hospital treatment, complaining of intense pain in their torso and legs.
According to the LPA’s findings, the incident occurred in November 2025, but has resurfaced in the public eye following the viral spread of the video. Joko stated that three students were allegedly victims of the incident, having been doused with fuel before being set on fire by a fellow student. “There are three victims. Two suffered burns and one passed away,” he said.
Initial information received by the LPA indicates that two victims sustained serious burns, while one died as a result of the incident. The Central Lombok Police are currently conducting investigations to establish the full chronology and confirm the criminal allegations in the case.
