Horrific Four-Hour Traffic Jam at Tanjung Priok, Truck Drivers Frustrated
Jakarta – A truck driver recounted his experience being trapped in horrific traffic around Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, on Friday (13 March 2026) afternoon.
Truck driver Nuratmo (45) said he was stuck in severe congestion for four hours while passing in front of New Priok Container Terminal (NPCT).
“Obviously frustrated, angry, and exhausted. Time to see my family is lost because it’s always wasted on the road. We work daily back and forth from factories to the port, from the port to factories,” said Nuratmo when met on Yos Sudarso Street, North Jakarta, on Sunday (14 March 2026).
He added that the traffic jam occurred due to a trailer truck accident on Cakung Cilincing Raya Road, causing traffic flow to be disrupted.
According to Nuratmo, restrictions on heavy vehicle operating hours on Cilincing Raya Road also worsened yesterday’s congestion.
Fatigue was also experienced by motorcycle rider Ibnu (27), who said he had been trapped in horrific traffic in the Tanjung Priok area more than once.
“Sometimes it’s tiring when we want to work. Usually, when there’s no congestion, traffic flows smoothly here. From what I’ve observed, every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, there’s often severe congestion. Sometimes Friday is even worse,” he said when met on Enggano Street, on Sunday.
Ibnu hopes the horrific congestion around Tanjung Priok will not happen again to avoid inconveniencing road users.
Previously reported, traffic around Tanjung Priok Port experienced severe congestion on Friday afternoon. One cause of the jam was a trailer truck accident on Cakung Cilincing Raya Road, North Jakarta, around 2:00 PM.
As a result, traffic along Cakung Cilincing Raya Road experienced heavy congestion. Vehicle queues even stretched to the front of Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT).
