Horn-honking incident in Cibubur ends with car driver charged as a suspect
The horn-honking incident on Jalan Alternatif Cibubur, Gunungputri, Bogor Regency has dragged on. A male driver was named a suspect after beating another driver.
The disturbance occurred on Sunday, 17 May 2026 at around 00:30 WIB. The confrontation ended with the victim filing a police report.
A moment of the altercation, which culminated in the beating, was captured on camera and went viral on social media. The suspect alighted from his vehicle and immediately assaulted the victim and damaged the victim’s car.
The complainant said that the suspect got out of his vehicle alone and immediately carried out the assault and damage. The suspect struck the complainant with a clenched right fist twice, forcefully toward the complainant’s lips. Then (the suspect) struck again toward the right jaw of the complainant twice, according to Gunungputri Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Aulia Robby Kartika Putra, on Monday (18/5).
The police subsequently moved to investigate the incident. The suspect has been identified and is still being sought.
“The identity has been identified. The suspect is still at large,” said Robby, on Tuesday (19/5).
Suspect Charged
Police named a man with the initials RG (40) as the suspect after he beat another driver on Jalan Alternatif Cibubur-Cileungsi, Gunung Putri, Bogor, West Java. RG faces a penalty of 2 years 6 months or 2.5 years imprisonment.
“Under the Criminal Code, the suspect will be charged under Article 351 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code on assault and/or Article 406 of the Criminal Code on destruction, with a maximum sentence of 2 years 6 months,” said Gunung Putri Police Chief Senior Commissioner Aulia Robby, on Thursday (21/5).
The suspect was detained on Wednesday (20/5) afternoon. At that time, police had raised the case status to inquiry and seized a number of pieces of evidence.
Chronology of the Incident
Police explained the chronology of the beating of another driver on Jalan Alternatif Cibubur-Cileungsi, Gunung Putri, Bogor, West Java. The victim sustained a number of injuries to his face.
“The incident occurred on Sunday around 00:38 WIB, the victim or the complainant was driving a four-wheeled vehicle we see behind this, from Jalan Alternatif Cibubur, Jatikarya Village, Jatisampurna District, Bekasi City,” said Roby.
The victim then saw a yellow car pass out of the road at At-Taqwa Mosque. That car moved into the middle lane of Jalan Alternatif Cibubur.
“Then the victim felt startled and spontaneously honked the horn,” he explained.
The perpetrator then became emotional and stopped the victim in the middle lane. After being stopped, the victim’s car was damaged and the victim beaten. The suspect also threatened to shoot the victim.
“After that, after being stopped, the suspect damaged the car and assaulted the victim, injuring the jaw on the victim’s right side and the victim’s lip,” he added.
Motive for the Beating
Police disclosed that the motive of the man identified as RG (40) for beating the driver was that he was angry because his child woke up due to the honk.
“So if the motive is that the suspect was emotional and had a baby in the car,” said Gunung Putri Police Chief Senior Commissioner Aulia Robby.
Police said the child in the suspect’s car woke up after another driver honked. The suspect became emotional and then beat the victim.
“Hence his child woke up and as a father he wanted to protect his child, so the suspect became emotional,” he said.
