The meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister (PM) Anwar Ibrahim addressed the impact of the intensifying conflict in West Asia, including its effects on strategic global trade routes. The two also discussed the Strait of Hormuz during the meeting.

“A meaningful meeting with President @prabowo today opens constructive space to find common ground in addressing the West Asia conflict that now urgently threatens energy security and global economic stability,” Anwar wrote in a caption on his Instagram account on Friday (27/3/2026).

He emphasised that Indonesia and Malaysia share views on ensuring that international trade routes are not disrupted amid escalating conflicts. One of the main concerns is the security of the world’s energy routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz. PM Anwar spoke of the need to strengthen global regional frameworks to ensure stability in security and the economy.

“In the increasingly acute global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia emphasise the need to strengthen principled regional integration to maintain peace, ensure stability, and bolster economic resilience for the people’s welfare,” he said.

“At the same time, the sustainability of global supply chains and strategic trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, must be ensured to remain unaffected,” he continued.

In addition, PM Anwar stated that the two countries also agreed to intensify diplomatic efforts to ease the conflict. These steps include pushing for the protection of civilians and opening space for negotiations towards a peaceful and sustainable solution.

“We agreed to intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict, protect civilian lives, and open space for negotiations towards a peaceful and sustainable solution,” he said.

PM Anwar added that his side continues to coordinate with various international partners to voice solidarity and assess the conflict’s impacts, particularly in terms of energy and regional security. He affirmed that Malaysia remains consistent in rejecting terrorism, upholding international law, and urging all parties to return to the path of peace.

“I also informed about interactions with international leadership partners as efforts to express solidarity, coordinate views, and examine global impacts, especially in terms of energy and regional security. Malaysia remains firm in its stance, rejecting terrorism, upholding international law, and urging all parties to return to the path of peace,” he said.

The meeting between Prabowo and PM Anwar took place on Friday (27/3) from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM WIB. In that three-hour meeting, the two leaders used the opportunity to exchange views on global dynamics, particularly geopolitical developments in the West Asia region.

“The atmosphere of the meeting was warm. In that friendly conversation, the two exchanged Lebaran greetings while discussing geopolitical dynamics in West Asia, as well as various strategic issues of common concern,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in a written statement.
