Hope for Miranda
Hope for Miranda
Miranda Swaray Goeltom will finally be back at the Bank of
Indonesia (BI). She has been chosen by House Commission IX to be
the senior deputy of the governor of BI.
Miranda has a vision to speed up change and reformation in the
central bank. Among her plans is to improve the quality of human
resources, above that of those in the market. In addition to
that, she has also her vision on international networking.
She believes that control over rupiah will be easier if the
central bank officials are close to decision makers in central
banks in other countries and foreign banks. And she admits that
she has such relations.
Miranda will be back at the bank when the latter is being
criticized for being late in taking measures to anticipate the
negative sentiment of the market due to the U.S. Fed's plan to
increase its interest rate.
Against such a background, the election of Miranda, who is
both skilled and experienced, is expected to strengthen the
central bank's executives and to stabilize the rupiah.
However, above all Miranda must shows her integrity to ensure
she has no conflict of interest, as she is also a commissioner of
a foreign bank and a consultant of several financial
institutions. She must declare this openly.
Because, it would be dangerous to have skill and experience
without integrity. -- Media Indonesia, Jakarta
