Hope for Marzuki Darusman
Hope for Marzuki Darusman
From Warta Kota
Warta Kota showed a picture in its March 8 edition of Attorney General Marzuki Darusman sitting on the floor among students associated with the Student Action Front for Reform and Democracy (FAMRED) in one the rooms of his office. The students were launching a demonstration, but were willing to hold a dialogue. FAMRED urged Marzuki to be more serious investigating cases of collusion, corruption and nepotism.
When asked about former president Soeharto he said that on that day Soeharto would go to the Cipto Mangunkusumo general hospital to be checked by the hospital's medical team.
This did not happen. It is not known which side did not allow Soeharto to go to the hospital. According to this paper Soeharto's family and medical team stated they had not received a request from the Attorney General's office.
The afternoon of the same day television showed us Soeharto and President Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) at Soeharto's home. Viewers could see Soeharto standing on the verandah of his house at Jalan Cendana welcoming Gus Dur who was paying a personal visit.
In actual fact, the community has no great expectations. They only hope that their right to obtain correct information is not hindered by any side. Especially if the information is related to cases of collusion, corruption and nepotism.
I hope that the Attorney General and the Cabinet ministers will imitate Gus Dur's work methods. Paying a visit to former president Soeharto as a younger man to an older one demonstrates a polite way of conducting politics as was the practice in this country in the 1950s.
