Hootie at Hard Rock Cafe

JAKARTA (JP): The American music group Hootie and The Blowfish will show its skill to Jakarta fans at Hard Rock Cafe on March 19.

The cafe spokesperson, Teges Prita Soraya said that Hootie deserved warm welcome due to its achievements, Antara reported Wednesday.

Hootie was crowned for "Best New Artist In a Video" and "Best New Artist" at MTV Music Award 1995, and got the Best New Performance By Duo or Group with Vocal at last year Grammy Award.

Another accomplishment made by the group was its meeting with American President Bill Clinton in 1996.

The group, consisting of Darius Rucker, Mary Bryan, Dean Felber and Jim Sonnenfeld, was established in the 1980s when the group members were still studying at the South Carolina university.

It's first single Hootie and The Blowfish was released in 1991, while the second album Time and Kootchypop were released in 1993.

In 1994, Hootie reached its peak when it worked with Atlantic Record, under producer Don Gehman, who also handled R.E.M., John Caugar Mellencamp, Bruce Hornsby and Tracy Champman. In that year Hootie was listed at the National New Artist Chart.

Hootie has since been very popular with its other singles, such as Hold My Hands, and Only Wanna Be With You. (sur)
