Hooded Man Who Burned Flag Also Targeted Buildings in Bandung and Cimahi
The act of a hooded man burning the Red and White flag at a resident’s house in Maleber, Andir Subdistrict, Bandung City, West Java, has caused a stir. The man is also suspected of setting fire to buildings elsewhere.
Besides Andir, a similar incident occurred in the Karasak area of Astanaanyar Subdistrict in the early hours of Tuesday (4/8) at around 02.40 WIB. An unidentified person bearing the same characteristics as at the crime scene in Andir set fire to a building, triggering a blaze. The Bandung City Fire and Rescue Service (Diskar PB) had to be deployed to extinguish the flames.
CCTV footage in circulation shows a man wearing a black hoodie, a mask and a rucksack igniting a fire at a building. After the perpetrator left the scene, flames soon emerged, drawing residents to the location.
In addition, an identical act with the same suspect characteristics also occurred in Cimahi. There, the tarpaulin of a resident’s UMKM cart was also set alight by the perpetrator.
Astanaanyar Police Chief Kompol Fetrizal confirmed the latest incident in the Karasak area. “Yes, it’s true, it happened in Karasak, in the Astanaanyar area,” he said on Wednesday (5/8/2026).
He said the owner of the house targeted in the arson attack had filed an official report with the police.
In addition to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Astanaanyar Sector Police, the case has also drawn attention and is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Bandung Metropolitan Police (Satreskrim Polrestabes Bandung).
Fetrizal confirmed that the perpetrator of this crime shares the same characteristics as those involved in the Andir and Cimahi crime scenes. “The preliminary assumption is that it is the same person,” he said.
