Honouring Try Sutrisno: Semarang Mayor Follows National Mourning Directive
Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng has invited residents to offer prayers for the late General Try Sutrisno (retired) and to hoist the Indonesian flag at half-mast for three days, 2-4 March 2026, as a mark of respect.
The invitation follows a letter from the State Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia, number B-02/M/S/TU.00.00/03/2026 dated 2 March 2026, concerning the hoisting of the flag at half-mast and the declaration of a national mourning day following Sutrisno’s death on Monday, 2 March, in Jakarta.
“We invite all residents of Semarang to hoist the Indonesian flag at half-mast for three days, from 2 to 4 March 2026, and to pray for the late General (retired) Try Sutrisno. This is a form of respect from our nation, honouring the service of leaders who have devoted their lives to Indonesia,” said Agustina in a written statement on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Agustina also instructed all government offices, vertical agencies, state-owned enterprises, educational institutions, and the general public in Semarang to adhere to these provisions as part of the National Mourning Day.
According to Agustina, Try Sutrisno was an outstanding statesman who made significant contributions to the nation, both through his service in the military and during his tenure as Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia from 1993 to 1998.
“His spirit of service, discipline, and exemplary conduct represent a valuable legacy that we must preserve. May the deceased find the best place beside the Almighty, and may the bereaved family be granted strength and fortitude,” she added.
The Semarang City Government also encouraged residents to view the national mourning period as an opportunity to strengthen national unity, patriotic spirit, and respect for distinguished national figures.
