Honor Magic9 to be the First Android Smartphone Featuring 55MP Square Selfie Camera

The technology brand Honor has confirmed that its upcoming smartphone series, the Honor Magic9, will be the first Android device equipped with a square-shaped selfie camera with a 5-megapixel resolution.

This information reinforces the impression that Honor is preparing a premium photography experience through this handset, following previous announcements that the phone will support the use of a 55mm teleconverter and features an ARRI 200MP camera.

Reports from Gizmochina on Sunday indicate that the front camera of this handset utilises technology known as “Agile Eye”.

However, the square-shaped front camera will not be available across the entire Magic 9 lineup. According to the details shared by Honor, the square selfie camera will be exclusive to the Magic 9 Pro Max and the Magic 9. Further details regarding other models will be announced during the full launch.

The company has collaborated with the cinematic camera brand, ARRI, for this product range. Notably, the rear camera module, which houses a triple-camera system, includes two 200MP ARRI sensors. Honor has also introduced a 500mm teleconverter alongside this series.

For video, the handset will also feature the new ARRI Cinema Mode. Honor is positioning the Magic 9 series as a more comprehensive camera system, rather than just another smartphone with high-resolution sensors.

Honor has redesigned the edges, back panel, and overall shape, while the rear camera module receives a new design. According to Honor, the design was inspired by the ARRIFLEX 35, one of the cameras that helped build the ARRI cinema camera range.
