Honor Magic9 officially launched: 55 MP selfie camera and 11,000 mAh battery
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Honor has confirmed that its newest phone series, the Honor Magic9, will bring front camera technology that is quite different from most smartphones today.
Honor confirmed that the Magic9 series will be the first Android phone to use a square selfie camera with a resolution of 55 megapixels (MP). The technology is one of the main attractions Honor is offering on its latest flagship line.
The front camera uses technology called “Agile Eye”. Unlike the round or pill-shaped front cameras widely used on smartphones so far, Honor has opted for a square design, which it claims can provide more room for the sensor to capture the field of view.
However, the feature will not be available on all Magic9 models. According to information shared by Honor, the 55 MP square selfie camera will be available exclusively on the Magic9 and Magic9 Pro Max.
Meanwhile, details on the front camera of other Magic9 models will still be announced by Honor alongside the official launch.
The selfie camera is not the only focus. Honor is also taking a more serious approach to photography on the Magic9 series through a partnership with ARRI, a company well known in the camera and cinematography industry.
On the rear, the Magic9 Pro Max is said to carry a triple camera system with two 200 MP sensors. Honor has also introduced a 500 mm teleconverter for the series, intended to support long-distance image capture.
For video needs, Honor is preparing the ARRI Cinema Mode. The feature means the Magic9 series relies not only on camera resolution figures, but also attempts to offer a shooting experience closer to cinema equipment.
The rear camera module design has also been updated. Honor says the design is inspired by the ARRIFLEX 35, one of the cameras that forms an important part of ARRI’s cinema camera history.
Honor Magic9 Super Edition brings an 11,000 mAh battery
Beyond the camera department, the Honor Magic9 Super Edition also brings fairly aggressive specifications in the battery department.
The smartphone is said to have a battery with a capacity of 11,000 mAh. If that figure is accurate, its capacity would be far larger than the battery capacity typically found on flagship phones.
The battery is reportedly supported by 80W fast charging via cable and 50W wirelessly.
Honor is also said to have fitted an internal cooling fan in the Magic9 Super Edition. The system is expected to help keep the device’s temperature under control when the processor is under heavy load.
The Magic9 Super Edition is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 as its engine.
For the display, the Honor Magic9 Super Edition is said to feature a flat 6.81-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution.
The device is also expected to run Magic 11 OS based on Android 17. However, a number of these specifications remain preliminary and await official confirmation from Honor.
On the rear camera front, specification leaks point to a main camera configuration of 200 MP, a 12 MP ultrawide, and a 50 MP telephoto. Meanwhile, the front camera is said to use a 50 MP sensor.
However, this differs from earlier leaks that said the Magic9 Super Edition’s main camera used a 50 MP sensor. As such, the final camera configuration still awaits Honor’s official announcement.
For memory options, the Magic9 Super Edition is said to come in three configurations: 12 GB RAM with 256 GB storage, 12 GB RAM with 512 GB storage, and 16 GB RAM with 512 GB storage.
The device is expected to be available in yellow, green, white, and black colour options.
Honor Magic9 launch schedule
Honor is scheduled to introduce the Magic9, Magic9 Pro Max, and Magic9 Super Edition on 28 September.
With a 55 MP square selfie camera, high-resolution cameras developed in collaboration with ARRI, and an 11,000 mAh battery on the Super Edition, Honor appears keen to position the Magic9 as a flagship series with fairly aggressive specifications.
Even so, several specifications that still come from leaks will need to be confirmed once Honor holds the official launch.
