Honing Managerial and Leadership Skills: High School Students in Surabaya Hold Running Festival

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA — Students from Al Hikmah High School in Surabaya held the Astec Run Festival, an event that combines the spirit of sports, creativity, and student leadership development.

The head of Al Hikmah High School in Surabaya, Ansari Setyo Prabowo, said that this activity is part of the school’s commitment to providing real space for students to learn how to manage an event professionally and collaboratively.

“The entire process from planning to implementing the activity is managed directly by the students with guidance from teachers and the school,” Ansari explained in a written statement on Sunday (17/5/2026).

Ansari added that activities such as the Astec Run Festival are an important part of character building and developing student leadership skills.

“We see this activity not only as a sports festival, but also as a very important medium for learning leadership for students. Through managing events like the Astec Run Festival, students learn about communication, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, and responsibility in making decisions,” said Ansari Setyo Prabowo.

He added that Al Hikmah High School in Surabaya continues to encourage students to actively create activities that have a positive impact while also being a means of direct practice in honing organisational and leadership skills.
