Hong Kong Targets Muslim Tourists as Halal Certification Expands
As one of Asia’s most popular tourist destinations, Hong Kong has consistently sought to improve its services for international visitors, especially Muslim travellers. A range of initiatives has been introduced to strengthen Hong Kong as a leading Muslim-friendly destination in Asia.
During this Ramadan, Hong Kong invites Muslim travellers to enjoy a holiday experience rich in spiritual and cultural values as modernity meets local Muslim-friendly sensibilities. With the growing trend of holidays during Ramadan, Hong Kong positions itself as an ideal destination for Muslim visitors seeking convenience, ease and meaningful experiences during the holy month.
Muslim travellers can explore Hong Kong comfortably at iftar time by enjoying halal dishes at a number of certified restaurants that are expanding across the city. The halal certification is overseen by the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong, the official body that represents and manages the interests of the Muslim community in Hong Kong.
Several shopping centres across Hong Kong have extended hours during the peak season, allowing visitors to relax and take their time. As a destination with increasingly comprehensive Muslim-friendly facilities, Hong Kong has several historic mosques, including the Kowloon Mosque & Islamic Centre, the largest mosque in Hong Kong, iconic and located in the city centre.
There are also prayer facilities available at various major transport hubs such as Hong Kong International Airport and at some shopping centres and attractions. These facilities ensure Muslim travellers can perform prayers comfortably while exploring the city.
Information about Muslim-friendly tourism in Hong Kong is summarised in the ‘Explore Hong Kong’ booklet, which was also distributed at the Hong Kong booth during the Astindo Muslim Friendly Travel Fair in Kota Kasablanka, 14-16 November 2025. To boost visitor numbers to Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Tourism Board collaborated with Astindo (Indonesian Travel Agencies Association) for the period 6 March to 6 May 2026.
The collaboration involves five travel agencies—Antavaya, Avia Tour, Bayu Buana, Dwidaya and Panorama Tour—to undertake a massive promotional campaign titled ‘Hong Kong, Muslim-Friendly Destination’. “With Muslim-friendly facilities continuing to develop, we want to ensure Indonesian travellers can holiday with ease, including fulfilling worship needs and halal dining,” said a representative of the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
