Hong Kong named a Muslim-friendly travel destination by Astindo
Hong Kong has been named a Muslim-friendly travel destination by the Indonesian Travel Agents Association (Astindo). Various initiatives are being undertaken to strengthen Hong Kong as a leading Muslim-friendly destination in Asia, an effort that has received global appreciation, Astindo’s General Chair Pauline Suharno said in a Jakarta press briefing on Friday.
Hong Kong ranks third in the list of Muslim-friendly travel destinations according to the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2025. In addition, Hong Kong was named The Most Promising Muslim-Friendly Destination by CrescentRating at the Halal in Travel Awards 2025.
Hong Kong’s tourism stakeholders are actively improving services for visitors and striving to provide comfort for Muslims to practise their faith while holidaying in the territory. Prayer facilities are provided at major transport hubs such as Hong Kong International Airport as well as at several shopping centres and tourist attractions.
The Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong oversee halal certification in the territory so that Muslim travellers can enjoy services with peace of mind.
Hong Kong is home to several historic mosques, such as Kowloon Mosque & Islamic Centre, which could be among the destinations for Muslim travellers.
Astindo is collaborating with the Hong Kong Tourism Board to promote Hong Kong tourism from 6 March to 6 May 2026. The collaboration involving five travel agencies aims to deliver an inclusive travel experience for all travellers, including Muslim travellers.
